So here are some instant remedies that I have tried and also suggested by some friends of mine that work like magic:
- Use of honey for acne –
Honey is my favourite when it comes to anything and everything. I prefer using honey as a remedy for a lot of health cures but for now, let’s restrict it for curing acne. Honey’s antibiotic properties definitely is known to help improve acne. Apply a teaspoon of honey to affected areas, or make a mask by mixing 1/2 cup of honey with 1 cup of plain oatmeal and leaving it on for 30 minutes. It relaxes you as well as makes your skin look supple. Also, honey is the most easily available ingredient at many homes.
- Mint is another important ingredient-
We all know how mint is another beneficial naturally available ingredient for many health uses. It is known to keep the body cool if eaten. But here we use it to remove pore-clogging oil. You may use it to help clear acne even before it begins, mix 2 tablespoons of very finely chopped fresh mint with two tablespoons each of plain yogurt and oatmeal. You may use a blender to make a paste. Apply it as a face pack for 10 minutes, then rinse off with water. You will see the result for yourself.
- Tea tree oil works wonders –
Because of its natural properties of fighting inflammation, it can be very effective for acne problems. Though it takes a little longer time to clear up but it’s sure a natural remedy and isn’t really known to cause any side effects. Take a few drops of tea tree oil with between 20 and 40 drops of witch hazel, then use a cotton swab to apply. You may use it up to twice a day; more could dry your skin and make the acne worse so restrict to using it only twice.
- Green Tea helps a lot-
We are all already aware of how green tea is antimicrobial and a rich antioxidant that can help fight acne. For best effects, you must use a cooled cup of green tea as a face wash or lay the bag over the affected area. It can be the easiest and less time taking tip to try.
Apply it daily for best results.
To make green tea, follow these simple steps:
- Steep a green tea bag in boiling water for 3 minutes.
- Let the tea bag cool, then open it and take out the leaves.
- Make a paste out of the leaves
- Wash your face with water and apply the paste on the acne affected skin.
- Leave it on for 20 minutes. Rinse with water and pat dry.
- Echinacea is another traditionally used ingredient for acne –
It helps to heal wounds faster and prevents from colds and flu, but its antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties can help with acne as well. You many use it’s tea as a daily face wash by soaking a cloth with it, or may also add a few drops of tincture on a cotton ball and dab it on blemishes.
- Chamomile is also known to decrease inflammation caused from acne –
Take a blender and combine the contents of a chamomile tea bag with enough water to form a paste and apply that to acne. Alternately, steep two chamomile tea bags with 1 cup boiled water for 15 minutes. Let the tea cool, then use a cotton ball to dab it on your face after cleansing.
- Aloevera is another favourite ingredient of mine-
Aloevera is very well known for its burn-relieving properties and can also promote healing, fight infection, it even reduces scarring. Many grow Aloevera at their home, just plant it in a pot. To use it to help with acne, you have to scrape the gel from an Aloevera plant and apply to acne affected areas. You can also buy aloevera gel from the market. Make sure to use pure aloevera, with no added ingredients. Alovera can be applied twice in the day, morning and night time before going to bed.
Take an aloe vera leaf or gel if you have and peel its outer green cover. You’ll see a gel like substance beneath its green outer cover. Take out this gel and apply it on your scars. Leave it for about half an hour and then wash off.
- Lemons are the most easily available and not very costly –
Lemons are known for its vitamin C properties. It acts as an exfoliant, skin lightener, and disinfectant to reduce the appearance of scars, removes pimples and avoids their reoccurrence. On a clean face, dab acne with a cotton ball or cotton swab dipped in lemon juice, then rinse with cool water.
- Apple cider vinegar –
This type of vinegar contains malic and lactic acids that can exfoliate, which helps in reducing red marks, and also treats acne. To make a toner of this, mix equal parts of apple cider vinegar and water. Then apply to skin with a cotton ball, making sure to shake well before each use.
- Omega 3 fatty acids –
These have anti-inflammatory properties that can help in reducing acne. You may either use it by taking a multi-nutrient capsule containing fish oil, or add more salmon, albacore tuna, flaxseeds, and walnuts to your diet every day. These are very beneficial for your body and skin.
Besides all the above methods, a friend of mine suggested these few more tested tips which have been passed on to her from her grand ma. These really helped me too:
- Olive oil is said to be the most skin friendly oil:
It contains lot of vitamins like A, D, E, C, B1 and B2, iron and antioxidants. The anti-inflammatory properties of olive oil also help remove acne scars. Apply olive oil on your scars before going to bed.
Take little olive oil and gently massage your face.Massage for a few minutes till the time the oil is absorbed by your skin. Now take a clean towel or cloth and soak it into warm water. Squeeze the cloth and put the warm wet cloth on to your face to get the steam. Then wipe away the excess oil gently with the cloth. Don’t rub, just Dan gently. After 1-2 minutes, wash off your face with normal water.
- Raw Tomatoes:
Red ripe tomatoes too can eliminate the scars from your face. Take a ripe red tomato and cut it into pieces. Take them and crush them or use a blender to make a pulp of the tomato. Apply this tomato pulp on your face and leave for 15-20 minutes. Wash off your face. Repeat this daily for a week or two for best results.
- Raw Potatoes:
This takes a little time and patience to work. Raw potato can do wonders in removing your pimple scars if you allow them to work for some days.
Take a potato and cut it into round slices. Take a slice and rub it gently over your face in circular motions. Keep doing this until you feel that the slice of potato has gone dry. Take another slice and do the same. Repeat this for about 15-20 minutes. Leave the face as it is so that the leftover potato juice is absorbed by your skin. Now wash off. Apply some moisturiser that suits your skin.
Repeat this raw potato massage 3-4 times a week for at least 1-2 months depending upon the intensity of your scars.
- Baking Soda :
Baking soda is yet another popular remedy for removing acne scars through its exfoliating effects. The gentle coarse granules of soda mixed with water remove the dead skin layer off your face without any inflammation caused during the application.
Take a couple of teaspoons of baking soda and using water make a consistent paste. Gently massage your face with this paste focusing on acne scars. After massaging for 1-2 minutes, leave the paste there on the face for few minutes. Now wash off with warm water. Apply some olive oil. Repeat the process twice or thrice a week.
